Rangers announce signing of Joey Barton on a two-year deal

Rangers have announced the signing of Joey Barton on a two-year deal.

The midfielder, who helped Burnley earn automatic promotion to the Premier League by winning the Championship, will join up with the club on July 1.

Barton was offered a new deal at Burnley, but the former Premier League player has opted to switch to the Scottish club on a free transfer.

It is the first time that the midfielder has played in Scotland following spells at Manchester City, Newcastle United, Queens Park Rangers, Marseille and Burnley.
