Rangers hammer St Mirren to reach cup final

Rangers put four past St Mirren as they win 4-0 at Ibrox to advance to the Petrofac Training Cup final in April.

Rangers have qualified for the final of the Petrofac Training Cup final, having beaten St Mirren 4-0 at Ibrox this afternoon.

The hosts started strongly as Gedion Zelalem was denied by Jamie Langfield, who tipped his effort over the bar before he stopped Barrie McKay, who had an excellent chance at close range.

Martyn Waghorn thought he had an open goal after going around Langfield, but Jack Baird got back to block his strike off the line.

The home side got their reward before half time as Andy Halliday looped a ball over the St Mirren defence to Jason Holt, who blasted the ball home for the opening goal.

St Mirren slowly got back into the game in the second half and they came close through Stuart Carswell, whose strong effort beat Wes Foderingham but cannoned back off the crossbar.

However, it was the home side that cemented their lead after Waghorn put the ball across goal and on a plate for Kenny Miller, who tapped it home into an empty goal from a few yards out.

Waghorn then put the icing on the cake as he ran forward and slotted the ball beyond Langfield into the bottom corner.

The Glaswegian side made it four late on after Dean Shiels saw his cross turned into his own goal by Shaun Kelly.

Rangers will now take on Peterhead in the Scottish Challenge Cup final in April.
