Lee McCulloch double wins derby for Rangers

Rangers beat Queens Park 2-0 and go top of the Third Division thanks to Lee McCulloch's two goals.

Almost 50,000 fans watched Glasgow Rangers beat Queen's Park to go top of the Scottish Third Division this afternoon.

Rangers started brightly as Ian Black and Lee McCulloch caused the away side problems. Their goalkeeper Neil Parry was in good form though.

As the first half wore on Queens Park offered more of a threat, but Jamie Longworth and Michael Keenan both missed chances.

The best chance of the half fell to Dean Shiels on 43 minutes; after being played in by McCulloch, he saw his shot brilliantly saved by Parry.

The second half began with a chance for the away side. Longworth could only head over from a corner though, and Rangers' pressure continued.

The dominance told 10 minutes later. Shiels did well on the left before squaring the ball to McCulloch, who passed it into the net for his 12th goal of the season.

Queen's Park responded well to the goal, producing some neat build-up play to release Andrew Robertson, but the winger's shot was well saved by Neil Alexander.

It was the home team who finished stronger. McCulloch missed a good chance to double the lead before Lewis Macleod fired just wide from outside the box.

In the final minute they found the second goal, again through McCulloch, who smashed the ball in after it rebounded off the crossbar.
