David Weir backs Mark Warburton to shine at Rangers

David Weir believes that his past experience of playing for Rangers will be a big help when he and Mark Warburton take charge of the club next season.

New Rangers assistant boss David Weir has said that he has "complete belief" that Mark Warburton is the right man to guide the club back to the Scottish Premiership.

The 52-year-old was appointed as Gers manager earlier today on a three-year deal, alongside ex-skipper Weir with whom he worked for 18 months at former side Brentford.

After missing out on promotion to the top flight last season in a cruel manner, the duo are tasked with bringing some renewed spirit to the fallen Scottish giants.

"Hopefully I can help Mark as I've been here before and he hasn't but I think we'll work well together," the 45-year-old told Sky Sports News. "We've got different skills and things we can help each other with.

"Mark is an experienced manager and has had a lot of different experiences in different walks of life so I don't think I'll have to tell him too much. He's very clever in what he does and I've got complete belief he's going to be successful.

"He's got a business background so he knows how that side of football works. He communicates well with people both from his previous role and working with players. He's also a good coach, don't underestimate that."

Weir played for Rangers between 2007 and 2012, winning eight trophies during that successful Ibrox stint.
