Scottish Premier League clubs reject Rangers newco application

Newco Rangers have failed in their bid to be accepted into the Scottish Premier League for next season.

Following a meeting this afternoon, the current top flight clubs voted "overwhelmingly" against the Gers being allowed into a league that they have won 54 times.

It must now be decided by the Scottish Football Association in which division Charles Green's newly-formed club will ply their trade.

Some reports have claimed that a drop down to the first division is on the cards, while others have suggested that they could be placed as far down as the fourth tier of Scottish football.
