Rangers goalkeeper Steve Simonsen charged by SFA over alleged betting offences

Simonsen charged with betting offences

The Scottish Football Association has charged Rangers goalkeeper Steve Simonsen with an alleged breach of betting rules.

A notice of complaint has been issued to the 35-year-old shot-stopper, who has been a Rangers player since his move from Dundee in 2013.

It is alleged that Simonsen placed bets on 18 football matches between January 15, 2014 and June 22, 2014, and a further 37 games between September 6 last year and January 13, 2015.

The club have noted that "there is no evidence to suggest" that Simonsen bet on a game that he was involved in.

The South Shields-born goalkeeper has until January 29 to respond to the complaint ahead of a February 12 hearing.
