Rangers newco SPL vote could be deferred

Rangers vote could be deferred

A decision on the Scottish Premier League future of Rangers might not be decided during today's meeting, according to SPL chief executive Neil Doncaster.

The vote could be deferred until a later date, with Doncaster citing the scale of the repercussions as a reason for the SPL clubs to take caution before making a decision.

"It's important that clubs don't close off any options while a First Division second-tier option remains in play," Doncaster told Sky Sports. "It may be thought that the best thing to do is to defer.

"The option a lot of people have talked about with Rangers at the bottom of the pyramid in division three would ultimately wreak huge financial damage on the whole of the game in Scotland.

"It's difficult to see why 41 innocent clubs should pay the price for the misdemeanours of one."

SPL chairmen were expected to vote on whether to allow Newco Rangers to remain in the league.
