Rangers remain unclear of their next move as talk of forming an SPL2 grows following the Scottish Football League members' vote to put the club into the Third Division.

Rangers have claimed that they remain "uncertain" of where the club's future lies after a Scottish Football League members' vote dropped the club into the Third Division.

The financially-stricken newco was accepted by the SFL after being shunned by the Scottish Premier League.

There have been suggestions that the former SPL champions could form an additional league known as SPL2 but the Glasgow-based outfit remain coy on this development.

The club said in a statement: "Rangers' future remains uncertain after the Scottish Football League clubs voted against the Light Blues playing in the First Division next season.

"At a meeting at Hampden today, the 30 member clubs agreed to accept Rangers into the SFL but voted against the SFL Board being allowed to broker a deal with the SPL and SFA over new structures and procedures which would also include Rangers playing in Division One.

"It was mooted last week that plans for an SPL2 would swing into action in the event of today's outcome but it is not known if this will be the case."

Rangers first fell into administration in February.
