Preview: Queens Park Rangers vs. Blackpool - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's Championship clash between Queens Park Rangers and Blackpool, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Seeking to make it two wins from two home games in the new Championship campaign, Queens Park Rangers welcome Blackpool to Loftus Road on Tuesday.

The Seasiders, on the other hand, head into the game on a run of three consecutive defeats across all competitions and will be looking to end this dry spell.

Queens Park Rangers boss Michael Beale will be satisfied with his side's performance last Saturday when they scored twice in the final three minutes of the game to salvage a thrilling 2-2 draw at Sunderland.

After trailing for most of the game courtesy of first-half goals from Ross Stewart and Ellis Simms, Ilias Chair pulled one back in the 87th minute before goalkeeper Seny Dieng grabbed the headlines as he scored a dramatic 92nd-minute equaliser to force a share of the spoils.

This followed a disappointing first-round exit from the EFL Cup on August 9, when they were beaten on penalties by League One side Charlton Athletic following a 1-1 draw at the end of normal time.

QPR, who have now picked up six points from their opening three games, will fancy their chances of returning to winning ways as they go up against an opposing side who are winless in eight of the last nine meetings between the teams since 2008.

On the other hand, Blackpool's lack of cutting edge at the attacking end of the pitch appears to be a constant theme in the early stages of their 2022-23 campaign.

The Seasiders failed to find the back of the net for the third consecutive game across all competitions last time out as they fell to a 1-0 loss against Swansea City on home turf.

In an end-to-end contest at Bloomfield Road, former Celtic forward Olivier Ntcham made his mark off the bench as he grabbed the all-important goal with three minutes remaining in the game.

Prior to that, Michael Appleton's men suffered a shock first-round exit from the EFL Cup against League Two side Barrow last Tuesday when they were beaten 4-3 on penalties after a goalless draw in normal time.

Blackpool have now lost each of their last three games across all competitions, while they have managed just one win in their most recent four Championship outings since the back end of last season.

Team News

Queens Park Rangers will take to the pitch without the services of Scottish goalkeeper Jordan Archer, who has been out of action since January through a long-term injury.

He is joined on the club's injury list by the English duo of Taylor Richards and former Chelsea man Jake Clarke-Salter, who are currently recuperating from knee and hamstring injuries respectively.

Chair was a standout performer for QPR against Sunderland last time out and the Moroccan forward, who had three goal involvements in the opening three games of the season, will certainly be one to keep an eye on.

As for Blackpool, Appleton will have to make do with the absence of Keshi Anderson and defender Luke Garbutt, who have been ruled out due to MCL and hamstring injuries respectively.

Veteran defender Richard Keogh is set to sit out his fifth consecutive game after the 36-year-old came off injured in July's 4-2 friendly defeat against Everton.

The duo of 25-year-old forward Jake Beesley and Jamaica international Kevin Stewart will also play no part in Tuesday's game as they are currently recuperating from injuries.

Queens Park Rangers possible starting lineup:
Dieng; Kakay, Dickie, Dunne, Hamalainen; Field, Johansen; Adomah, Shodipo, Chair; Dykes

Blackpool possible starting lineup:
Grimshaw; Connolly, Ekpiteta, Williams, Thompson; Fiorini, Dougall, Carey; Bowler, Corbeanu, Yates

We say: Queens Park Rangers 2-1 Blackpool

While Blackpool will be aiming to arrest their slump, they have struggled to get going away from home, where they have managed just one win in their last seven league games away from home. Looking at recent results between the sides, QPR have enjoyed the better of this fixture and we are backing them to extend their dominance over the visiting side.
