Les Ferdinand returns to Queens Park Rangers

Queens Park Rangers appoint former centre-forward Les Ferdinand as the club's new head of football operations.

Queens Park Rangers have confirmed that Les Ferdinand has returned to the club in the role of head of football operations.

The 47-year-old spent eight years on the books at Loftus Road during his playing career before he left to join Newcastle United in 1995.

However, he is now back with the West Londoners, for whom he will be "overseeing the structure of the footballing side of the club, focusing on improving the footballing philosophy at all levels".

Speaking to the club's official website, Ferdinand said: "It's incredible to be back here. This club holds a special place in my heart. Everyone knows what it means to me, so when the opportunity to return here in this role came up I jumped at the opportunity.

"There's nothing I want more than for QPR to be successful in the short, medium and long term and I'm excited about the challenge ahead."

Meanwhile, chairman Tony Fernandes added: "Football has changed considerably in recent years and I firmly believe there is a role at every football club for this kind of position. Les is a fantastic QPR man and I know the fans will join me in welcoming him back to a place he has a great fondness for."

More recently, Ferdinand has been a part of the coaching staff at Tottenham Hotspur.
