Ferdinand thrilled by Chery arrival

Queens Park Rangers director of football Les Ferdinand has claimed that the club fought off Premier League competition to sign Tjaronn Chery.

The Dutch attacker moved to Loftus Road on a three-year deal from Groningen on Monday for an undisclosed fee.

Chery, 27, found the net 15 times in 34 appearances for Groningen last season.

"We've been trying to get this one over the line for a while now, so we're delighted it's finalised," Ferdinand told QPR's official website.

"There were a lot of clubs in for him, including some from the Premier League, so it's pleasing that he's decided to come here. He had offers to earn much more money elsewhere, but he's chosen QPR because he feels he can progress here as a player and that's fantastic."

Queens Park Rangers are back in pre-season action tomorrow when they face Dundee United at Tannadice Park.
