Ferdinand retains England hope

Queens Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand has revealed that he has not given up on getting into the England team.

Despite making 17 appearances at Under-21 level, the 27-year-old has never been capped at for the senior side.

"I want to be the best I can be," he told the London Evening Standard. "I would like to have a chance of playing for my country.

"I played a lot of games for the Under-21s and if you ask the managers who were there with me, Stuart Pearce and Peter Taylor, I never looked out of place, I looked comfortable at international level. It's more of a thinking game and I thrive like that.

"If I'm playing well, I'd like to think I'm in with a chance because I believe I'm good enough to play for my country and if given a chance I'd take it with both hands."

Ferdinand is expected to feature for QPR when they host Fulham in the Premier League on Saturday.
