Shaun Derry admits that Manchester United's visit to Loftus Road will be a "massive occasion" for everybody connected with Queens Park Rangers.

Queens Park Rangers midfielder Shaun Derry believes that his side's match against Manchester United on Sunday will be "something to savour".

The two teams have not met in a league encounter since 1996, when a late Eric Cantona header secured a 1-1 draw for United.

Previewing the game, Derry has described it as a "massive occasion" for everybody connected with QPR.

"We've played one or two big teams of late, but this is the big one," he told the club's official website. "To welcome Manchester United down to our home stadium, after 15 years away from the top flight, is going to be something to savour.

"It's a massive occasion. Not just for QPR supporters and those living in the local area, but us - as players - as well.

"We're under no illusions just how hard this is going to be on Sunday, but these are the kind of games you want to be involved in."

Derry, 34, joined the Rs in 2010 from Crystal Palace.
