Anderlecht trial proves unsuccessful for Sissoko

Former Liverpool and Juventus midfielder Mohamed Sissoko has failed to earn a contract with Anderlecht.

The 28-year-old has been a free agent since leaving Paris Saint-Germain by mutual consent in September.

He has spent the last two weeks training with Anderlecht, but the Belgian champions have decided against offering him a deal.

A statement released by Anderlecht read: "The management and the board of Anderlecht have, after consultation, decided not to do a deal.

"The reasons are that the 90 minutes against NAC Breda passed smoothly. We also could not agree with the financial demands of the player or his physical state."

General manager Herman Van Holsbeeck added: "Although Mohamed Sissoko could have offered his experience and leadership, we could not find any agreement.

"I want to personally thank him for his positive attitude."

Sissoko, who has been capped 34 times by Mali at senior international level, has also held talks with Reading and Monaco since leaving PSG.
