PSG, Reims share points after late drama

Two late goals see Paris Saint-Germain and Reims share a 1-1 draw in Ligue 1.

Edinson Cavani immediately cancelled out Theoson Siebatcheu's late goal as Paris Saint-Germain drew 1-1 with Reims in the Ligue 1 clash at Stade Auguste Delaune II.

The French champions came into the match unbeaten in five at the top of the league and unsurprisingly started the brighter, although Layvin Kurzawa's header straight at Kossi Agassa and Ezequiel Lavezzi's long-range drive were their only openings in the early stages.

Javier Pastore thought that he had given the visitors the lead when he headed home after quarter of an hour only to see his effort ruled out for offside, before Lavezzi could not convert as he attempted to chip Agassa from close range.

Agassa had to be replaced by Johnny Placide midway through the first half after the goalkeeper picked up an injury but the change did not yield any improvement in front of goal as PSG struggled to find a finishing touch.

Laurent Blanc's side did have the ball in the net a second time eight minutes before the break when Lavezzi beat Placide from Pastore's fine pass but the assistant referee's flag again denied the away team.

The hosts nearly took a shock lead against the run of play just before the break when Nicolas de Preville hit the post but that was their best chance to find a winner themselves as PSG continued to dominate after the interval.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic fired inches wide and Placide superbly kept out Marquinhos's header as Reims continued to frustrate their opponents, and the visitors thought that they had snatched victory when De Preville fed Siebatcheu for his third goal of the season seven minutes from time.

After it took 83 minutes for the first goal to arrive, the ball was in the net again within 60 seconds as PSG swept downfield and substitute Cavani headed home his seventh of the season from Pastore's cross to restore parity immediately.

Thiago Silva's header came within inches of winning the game for the champions but they had to settle for a point as they failed to win for the second time running in the league.
