David Beckham hints at playing role for Miami franchise

Beckham hints he may play again

David Beckham has hinted that he may feature in a playing capacity for his Miami-based MLS franchise.

The former England captain confirmed in February that he would be launching a MLS franchise in America.

While many people thought Beckham's role would be limited to that of owner, he has suggested to BBC Sport that he may play a part on the pitch once the team is launched.

He said: "There's never been a player-owner but maybe?

"Now I go to watch a basketball game and when you are watching athletes play at the top of their game, for me it gives me that itch again and I want to be back in the game.

"I then start thinking to myself, 'Could I play again? Could I go back? Could I come out of retirement and start playing again?'".

Beckham officially retired as a player in May last year following a loan spell with Paris Saint-Germain.
