Head-to-head record
Previous meetings: 115
Paris Saint-Germain wins: 38
Draws: 28
Monaco wins: 49
Despite only being founded in 1970, Paris Saint-Germain have still met Monaco over 100 times, and after winning the Division 2 title in their first season as a club, the Parisians did not wait long until they became familiar with Monaco.
However, after just one season in the top flight, where PSG suffered a defeat at Monaco and were held to a draw at home, they were demoted to the third tier due to off-field issues, and would not return until 1974.
PSG have since been ever-present in Ligue 1, but they still struggled to get the better of the principality club, even losing home and away to them when Monaco were relegated in 1976.
Monaco returned the following season, and were remarkably crowned French champions too, with a win away to PSG on gameweek 36 of a 38-game season proving crucial in that miraculous title win for the newly-promoted club.
That excellent record against the club from the capital continued the following season, as Monaco also dumped PSG out of the Coupe de France in the second round, winning both legs in a 6-2 aggregate success.
The first 11 meetings between the two saw Monaco remain unbeaten and win nine, with PSG needing to wait almost a decade for their first victory in the fixture.
Wins have come much easier for PSG since, especially after the Qatari takeover in 2011, with Monaco winning just six of the 33 meetings since, but the Monegasques still lead the Ligue 1 head-to-head handsomely though, having won 45 of the 99 meetings, with PSG on just 26.
Cup competitions are where PSG have dominated in particular, winning four major finals against Monaco since losing the first between the two in the 1985 Coupe de France final.
PSG were victorious in the 2010 and 2021 Coupe de France finals, as well as the showpiece occasions of the now defunct Coupe de la Ligue in 2017 and 2018.
On their way to the domestic cup double in 2017, PSG avenged Monaco, who snatched the Ligue 1 title off them that season, by thrashing a much-changed side 5-0 in the Coupe de France semi-final, before going on to beat Angers in the final a few weeks later.
Monaco are the only club to have recorded more than 40 wins against PSG (49), but they do struggle at the Parc des Princes, winning just twice since PSG's Qatari takeover, one of which came behind closed doors.
The all-time top scorer in the fixture is PSG icon Edinson Cavani, who netted 15 against Monaco, while Kylian Mbappe is next in that list on 11 goals, but even though he represented both sides, he never scored for Monaco against his future club.
