Kylian Mbappe breaks Paris Saint-Germain Champions League goalscoring record

Kylian Mbappe breaks PSG Champions League scoring record

Kylian Mbappe has become Paris Saint-Germain's leading Champions League goalscorer of all time courtesy of his opener in their Group H clash against Benfica this evening.

The France international coolly stroked home a penalty six minutes before half time after Juan Bernat had been brought down inside the area, sending the keeper the wrong way from the spot.

In giving his side the lead at the Parc des Princes, Mbappe notched goal number 31 of his Champions League career for PSG, moving out on his own in the club's all-time rankings in the competition.

Mbappe had gone into the match sitting level with Edinson Cavani on 30 European goals for PSG, but now holds sole possession of the record.

The goal comes on a day when Mbappe's future in the French capital has come under renewed scrutiny, with reports claiming that he regrets signing a new contract at the club and wants to leave in January.

Those reports have since been denied by the club's sporting director Luis Campos, who dismissed the speculation as fake news.

PSG would book their place in the last 16 of the Champions League with victory over Benfica this evening, after Juventus were stunned by Maccabi Haifa in the group's other game earlier on Tuesday.
