Preston North End are one game away from the Championship after beating Chesterfield 3-0 in the second leg of their playoff semi-final at Deepdale.

Two goals from Jermaine Beckford, including a strike from near the halfway line, and a Joe Garner penalty were enough for the Lilywhites to book their place at Wembley.

They will meet either Swindon Town or Sheffield United in the final for the final League One promotion place.

Good morning and welcome to coverage of the second-leg between Preston North End and Chesterfield. The hosts have a 1-0 lead after Thursday's game at the Proact Stadium. Can they stay ahead to reach League One Playoff Final at Wembley? We should know over the next couple of hours, so stay with us to find out!

We'll have team news along the way soon. Joe Murphy is thought be making his first start for Chesterfield after joining on an emergency loan agreement. First-choice keeper Tommy Lee finished the first-leg at the Proact Stadium with an injury and limped through the final 20 minutes of that game. News on that and both lineups shortly.

So, to that team news...

CHESTERFIELD XI: Murphy, Evatt, Darikwa, Hird, Ryan, Banks, Jones, O'Shea, Morsy, Roberts, Clucas

SUBS: Humphreys, Daglan, Gardner, Carter, Ariyibi, Harrison, Gnanduillet

PRESTON NORTH END XI: Johnstone, Clarke, Wright, Huntington, Woods, Welsh, Kilkenny, Johnson, Gallagher, Beckford, Garner

SUBS: Stuckmann, Laird, Humphrey, Browne, Robinson, Hugill, Davies

As expected, Joe Murphy is called in by Chesterfield boss Paul Cook, but the Spireites have also drafted Ollie Banks in place of Dan Gardner, who drops to the bench for the game at Deepdale. Banks came to close netting an equaliser late on in the first-leg after his introduction.

Preston boss Simon Grayson has made changes to his starting lineup as Neil Kilkenny comes in for Chris Humphrey. Kilkenny made a late appearance at the Proact on Thursday. Humphrey is among the substitutes. Callum Woods is also starting, so expect a change of formation to 4-3-3 with Paul Gallagher potentially in an advanced role.

That Chesterfield have only made one unenforced change is arguably a reflection of their performance in Thursday's first-leg. Despite starting quietly and conceding an early Jermaine Beckford goal, Cook's side largely monopolised possession, but their chances in the final third were few and far between. However, they forced Preston to defend in numbers as they protected their lead.

On the other hand, North End have now only lost one of their last 20 matches, which came when Colchester struck late to keep themselves in League One and gift promotion to MK Dons. Not surprisingly, Beckford and Joe Garner have been selected up front for the Lancashire outfit. Beckford has netted six goals in his last nine appearances, while Garner, the division's top scorer, has scored five is as many games.

Deepdale should be fairly full today, with only a handful of tickets left to be snapped up, according to the club. However, spare a thought for ITV News's programme editor Richard Frediani, who is stuck in work on Preston's big day. That hasn't stopped him showing his true colours...

Speaking of what you should wear to work. Even North End's official Twitter feed is unsure about what Callum Robinson wore on his arrival this morning...

Enough about fashion dos and don'ts. Robinson is on the bench for what could be his last appearance for Preston before he returns to parent club Aston Villa (along with his bow tie).

If Chesterfield are going to reach Wembley, they will need to score at least once. However, the Derbyshire club are finding goals hard to come by of late. Their run into the playoffs came largely off the back of eight wins in 11 games towards the end of the season. Since then, they have found the back of the net once in their last four games - that goal coming in a 1-1 draw with Sheffield United.

Preston's goal threat will, not surprisingly, come from Beckford and Garner, but watch out for the likes of Daniel Johnson in midfield. He was somewhat quiet in the first-leg, but at Deepdale, it could be a different story.

The winners of this tie will meet the winners of the other League One playoff between Swindon Town and Sheffield United. The sides meet at the County Ground on Monday night with the Robins holding a 2-1 lead after the first match at Bramall Lane. A preview of tomorrow night's encounter is available here.

Back to today and, ahead of this afternoon's match, Paul Cook has been speaking about the value of a good start from Chesterfield at Deepdale.

He told BBC Radio Sheffield: "If we can start in the correct manner then we have a major part to play in this tie.

"The next goal will be vital and if we were to score next and take control then they could come under real pressure but if they get it then it could become a carnival atmosphere. We have their respect and they have got ours."

Meanwhile, Simon Grayson says that Preston's win at Chesterfield has shown that his team have spirit after missing out on automatic promotion.

"What we've got is belief - the lads showed character and spirit after a lot of criticism," he told BBC Radio Lancashire. "They've stuck their chests out like we asked them to do and come up with the goods."

If Preston are to make sure of a place at Wembley, they may need to score. However, that means finding a way past newly-recruited keeper Joe Murphy, who looks in good spirits ahead of the game...

Murphy joins Chesterfield on an emergency loan deal from Huddersfield, but he has experience of Wembley, having played for Tranmere Rovers in the 2000 League Cup Final. He's even saved a Michael Owen penalty, so if the tie goes the distance...

If that wasn't enough, Murphy was even part of Scunthorpe's team which won the League One Playoff Final in 2009. Good omen for the Spireites?

Should Preston avoid defeat today, they will be halfway to ending an unwanted record of failing to earn promotion via their last nine visits to the playoffs. On six occasions, the Lilywhites have not progressed beyond the semi-final stage. Can they change that today?

PREDICTION: With kick-off approaching at Deepdale, it is about time that I made a prediction. On Thursday, I suggested that Preston would win 3-1 and fell wide of the mark as they defended deep to keep out Chesterfield. In this instance, the Spireites' need for goals may open up the game. With Beckford and Garner available, I think North End will edge it 2-1.

The teams emerge from the tunnel to a pretty expectant Deepdale. We're moments away from starting this second-leg.

KICKOFF: Referee Andy D'Urso blows his whistle as Preston get us underway.

Chesterfield will be hoping for a brighter start that on Thursday. They conceded the opening goal six minutes in at the Proact.

CLOSE! The Spireites do signal their intention as Clucas pick up the ball on the edge of the area and fizzes a shot just wide of Johnstone's goal.

Paul Cook shading possession early on as Morsy looks to curl a cross in from the left flank, but North End clear away.

The visitors looking to be in the ascendancy as Roberts manages to keep the ball in play near the left touchline and fire in a cross, but no Chesterfield shirt is up in support.

CHANCE! Good work between Banks and Roberts sees the latter pick out Clucas, but the forward's shot is blocked at the crucial moment. Preston haven't got going yet.

One thing is for sure. There is little love lost between Garner and Evatt. Both players are keenly contesting the ball at every moment, just as they were on Thursday.

Kilkenny and Woods link up on the left flank for PNE before Darikwa arrives to stop the former before he can deliver a pass across the area. First moment of promise from the hosts!

Beckford latches onto a long ball and tries a flick towards Garner, but Hird is on-hand to intercept, before the League One top-scorer can cause any damage. Are Preston settling down here?

Cries for a penalty from Beckford as he claims he was pulled down by Hird following a flick on from Garner. It's fair to say that the contact was minimal, despite Beckford' protests.

Jones in penalised for his tackle on Jones, which Garner takes exception to. Andy D'Urso takes his time to calm the players down and give them just a talking to.

Welsh fizzes a cross-field pass to Clarke before Johnson curls a cross into the box. Chesterfield manage to clear, but Preston are starting to have some joy following their indifferent start.

Replays show that Jones appears to have raked his studs down the back of Garner, which explains his angry response. Jones is perhaps lucky to escape a booking. There is still that undercurrent, as there was on Thursday, which threatens to boil over.

Darikwa manages to escape danger near his own corner flag before clearing, but the hosts are the ones largely doing the pressing.

Corner to Chesterfield comes to nothing as Roberts delivers a disappointing ball into the box, which is comfortably cleared by the first man. Wasted chance!

It's fair to describe the opening quarter as cagey, with both teams understandably not wanting to give much away.

SAVE! That's the first time that Murphy has been called into action! Hird looks to have stood off too long as Gallagher shoots, but Murphy collects easily.

BOOKING: First card of the afternoon goes to Garner for his challenge on Evatt. We mentioned their contest earlier. One suspects that's not the last we've seen of those two.

Chesterfield are momentarily down to 10 men as Roberts is waiting to come back on, but the referee hasn't waved him back. I understand Roberts needed a change of shorts. Bit of an important time to have a wardrobe malfunction!

Banks runs onto the ball near the right touchline. However, a good tackle from Woods stops the Chesterfield flyer from delivering a cross. Corner comes to nothing for the away side.

BOOKING: Evatt now picks up a yellow after leaving Garner in a heap as both go for a high ball. Not much love lost between those two!

The Spireites have moved Roberts from one wing to the other. Clucas tries to play him in, but the winger is flagged for offside.

CHANCE! Best chance of the half so far as Morsy delivers a cross from the left for Jones. He then tries to tee up Clucas, but his pass is a couple of inches behind the forward.

SAVE! Clucas is again involved as the ball falls to him in the penalty area after beating the offside trap, but Johnstone makes a telling save with his legs. Chesterfield should have scored!

GOAL! Preston 1-0 Chesterfield (Jermaine Beckford, 38 min)

No sooner do the visitors threaten to level the tie than Preston increase their lead. Beckford's finish was exquisite after another Garner flick on. From 10 yards out, he hooks the ball past Murphy. One foot in the firmly in the final

I was just about to say that Paul Cook looked animated on the touchline and unhappy about something. He will be unhappy if his side head in 1-0 behind. They were just looking to get on top before Beckford's finish.

BOOKING: Now Beckford gets himself into the book for what can only be described as a striker's challenge on Jones.

Garner hounds Jones into a mistake on his own touchline and Chesterfield concede a corner, but Preston are unable to take advantage.

CHANCE! The visitors almost pulled a goal back as Hird got his head to a corner, but Gallagher was able to clear off the line. A timely reminder to Preston that they can't afford a slip up!

Two minutes of added time in the first half at Deepdale...

HALF TIME: Preston 1-0 Chesterfield (Agg: 2-0)

Well, it was that man again as Beckford scored his seventh goal in 10 games for Preston. It was a nicely taken finish as well, with the ball coming over his shoulder and good technique in volleying past Murphy. Paul Cook will have to inspire his troops at half time, if Chesterfield are to recover.

STATS: The Spireites are shading possession, but only just as the game has largely been cagey. The away side's only shot on target came when Clucas forced a save out of Johnstone, moments before they fell behind. Chesterfield did also have a header cleared off the line late on, but both teams were cagey for much of that first half.

BENCH WATCH: Simon Grayson may feel that there is little need to change his team, with the tie is it's present position. However, he can call upon the experience of Kevin Davies, if he needs to. There is also Aston Villa loanee Callum Robinson as an option. Chesterfield needs to score twice to keep this semi-final alive. Perhaps, we will see the introduction of Ivorian forward Armand Granduillet early in the second period.

However, it's the Spireites with it all to do after Beckford's first-half goal gave the Lilywhites a strangehold on the tie.

So, kickoff is moments away and we can certainly expect plenty of drama before full time, with Chesterfield seeking a comeback.

Elsewhere today, you can follow live coverage of Manchester City's Premier League clash with QPR. Remember, Rangers needs to keep winning to stand a chance of survival.

The teams are back out at Deepdale.

KICKOFF: And now we're back underway...

CLOSE! Chesterfield throwing everything at Preston early on as they set up camp on the edge of the Preston area. Darikwa looks to be through on goal, but Gallagher clears the danger.

Gallagher's day could be coming to an end. The Preston player looks to be limping badly at the moment.

SUBSTITUTION: Browne (Preston) comes on as Gallagher is withdrawn. At least, if North End make it to Wembley, he will have a fortnight to recover.

Chesterfield continue to press for a goal as Wright beats Clucas and concedes a corner. The delivery from Roberts is good, but Evatt's header is collected by Johnstone.

Both managers are on the touchline barking out orders frantically. However, Preston still have a two-goal cushion with 35 minutes left.

Again, Chesterfield are dominating possession. They've had 75% of the ball since the restart, but it's goals that they need. Preston may look to play on the counter attack as their opponents push.

PENALTY AWARDED TO PRESTON NORTH END!

Murphy concedes a spot kick after trying to stop a break from Johnson. He trips the winger, but escapes further punishment. Garner is ready to step up...

GOAL! Preston 2-0 Chesterfield (Joe Garner, 61 min - penalty)

Garner runs off in delight after well-taken spot kick. Murphy had no chance. Do Chesterfield have any chance of a recovery?

SUBSTITUTION: Chesterfield roll the dice as Gnanduillet comes on for Banks.

That second goal looks to have given Preston fans the excuse to dance in the stands of Deepdale, and why not. Their team is heading for a playoff final.

SUBSTITUTION: Another gamble for Chesterfield as Ariyibi replaces defender Jones. Paul Cook is throwing the kitchen sink at PNE for a route back into the tie.

SHOT! Garner tries to score a spectacular third goal with a strike from some way out, which Murphy claims.

SUBSTITUTION: Laird is introduced as Johnson makes way. We may see a change to a more defensive formation from Preston.

Chesterfield are still enjoying more of the ball, but the most prominent attacking threat, Roberts, has been kept largely quiet by the Lilywhites rearguard.

CLOSE! The visitors continue to look for a goal and Ryan shot is inches away from creeping inside the left-hand post. They earn a corner at least.

CLOSE! It really isn't going to be Chesterfield's day, is it? From the resulting corner, O'Shea works himself into space on the edge of the area before unleashing a shot that beats Johnstone, but comes back off the woodwork. Unlucky!

SUBSTITUTION: Humphrey, who started the first-leg for North End is on for the final few minutes. Woods is off with what looks to be a calf problem.

CHANCE! Another corner for Chesterfield, their eighth of this game, but Gnanduillet is unable to get a meaningful header on the cross and it drifts harmlessly out of play.

SUBSTITUTION: Roberts goes down with an injury, but he is replaced by Gardner for Chesterfield.

Ariyibi is demanding a penalty, claiming that Humphrey has tripped him on the edge of the area. The referee is having none of it and it looks as though he was right. Replays are showing minimal contract.

Garner tries to get his second of the game as he meets Kilkenny corner, but the header is off target.

GOAL! Preston 3-0 Chesterfield (Jermaine Beckford, 87 min)

Wow! Jermaine Beckford has capped off Preston's semi-final win in some style. He turns and, from just inside the Chesterfield half, he lets fly with a shot that a retreating Murphy can't keep out. His technique was brilliant and the fact he slipped at the point of contact didn't matter. Amazing goal!

Beckford and Garner have really been the difference between the teams. Preston fans look ready to run on the pitch in delight at the final whistle.

Four minutes of injury time in this second-leg...

Beckford takes a knock to the face, but is alright to continue. Preston fans are being told to move back over the hoardings, but it doesn't seem anyone is heeding that message.

Paul Cook is sharing a joke with Simon Grayson and congratulating him before the final whistle. Nice touch from the Chesterfield boss. His team were only promoted to League One last season. A great feat to make the playoffs so quickly!

FULL TIME: Preston 3-0 Chesterfield (Agg: 4-0)

Thousands of Preston fans invade the pitch and there are smiles everywhere. Many of them are going to congratulate Jermaine Beckford, and why not after his two goals, both of which were brilliant strikes.

One word sums it up for Preston...

So, Preston will be at Wembley on May 24 for the playoff final. They will meet either Swindon or Sheffield United for a place in the Championship. We will have live coverage of the second-leg from the County Ground starting at 6.45pm on Monday. Until then, good afternoon!
