Portsmouth's game against Hull City and Reading's trip to Doncaster in the Championship have been postponed after the pitches at Fratton Park and the Keepmoat failed to beat the freezing conditions.
Pitch inspections were carried out this morning, with referees deciding the playing surfaces were unsafe.
"After looking at the pitch this morning the area in front of the south stand was significantly frozen. You couldn't get a key in the ground," referee Darren Sheldrake said at Portsmouth.
"With that area in shade for the whole of the day, in my opinion it's not going to defrost enough for the pitch to be playable and I have to keep player safety in mind."
The postponements are the first in the second tier of English football, although many League One and League Two encounters had already been called off.
