Porto vs Casa Pia - prediction, team news, lineups

Porto will aim to maintain their flawless start to the new Primeira Liga campaign when they welcome Casa Pia to Estadio do Dragao on Sunday for matchday three action.

The Dragons have opened the season in promising fashion with two victories, and they now have the chance to extend that run against a side they have enjoyed a dominant record over in recent encounters.

Match preview

One of only five teams to win their first two games of the 2025-26 Primeira Liga season, Porto stand out even further as they are also among the four sides yet to concede a goal.

Francesco Farioli’s methods appear to be bearing fruit almost immediately since he assumed charge in early July, following a disappointing previous campaign that saw the Dragons finish in third place.

With a convincing 3-0 victory over Vitoria de Guimaraes on the opening day and a 2-0 triumph away to Gil Vicente last weekend, Porto are beginning to look like a team ready to mount a genuine title challenge.

A key factor in this flying start has been their ability to strike early, with the Blue and Whites not only drawing first blood in both matches but also taking a lead into half-time on each occasion.

Next up is an opponent Porto have beaten in five straight meetings, including back-to-back clean sheets last season when they claimed a 2-0 success at home before edging the reverse clash 1-0.

Casa Pia, though, will not travel entirely without belief after bouncing back from defeat on the opening weekend to record a 2-0 victory over AVS last time out.

Few would have expected more from their first outing against reigning champions Sporting Lisbon, who won 2-0, but the Geese showed much greater resilience at Vila Conde, where goals from Korede Osundina and Duplexe Tchamba sealed the points.

That result also ended a barren eight-game run without an away victory in the league (D3, L5), a sequence stretching back to last season, so supporters of Os Gansos will feel a flicker of renewed optimism as they head into his daunting trip north.

That said, Joao Pereira’s men secured an historic ninth-place finish last term, equalling their best-ever placing in the top flight, while their tally of 45 points was the highest they had ever managed in the division, so Casa Pia's ambitions of surpassing that record will hinge on picking up results even at difficult grounds, the Dragao included.

Team News

Spanish striker Samu Omorodion’s absence leaves a huge gap to fill in attack after he limped off last weekend, but new arrival Luuk De Jong looks set to seize his chance from the start.

Meanwhile, Zaidu Sanusi made his presence felt with an assist against Gil Vicente and should retain his spot at left-back, with Martim Fernandes still sidelined.

For Casa Pia, Tchamba not only found the net but also impressed at the back in their recent win, so he is expected to remain in Pereira’s three-man defence.

Osundina, who struck the opener against AVS, is likely to keep his place out wide, while Tiago Morais could be handed a starting role on the opposite flank after catching the eye with his cameo.

Porto possible starting lineup:

D Costa; Sanusi, Perez, Bednarek, A Costa; Veiga, Varela, Froholdt; Pepe, De Jong, Sainz

Casa Pia possible starting lineup:

Sequeira; Tchamba, Goulart, Fonte; Benaïssa-Yahia, Oukili, Mohamed, Larrazabal; Morais, Cassiano, Osundina

We say: Porto 2-0 Casa Pia

Given Porto’s resurgence under Farioli, it is hard to see Casa Pia halting the Black and Whites, who also have the added lift of playing at the Dragao, so anything other than a home win would be a major upset.
