Philadelphia hold off San Jose comeback
A brace from Andrew Wenger and strikes from Sebastien Le Toux and Sheanon Williams fire the Philadelphia Union to a 4-2 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes.

The Philadelphia Union held off a second-half comeback from the San Jose Earthquakes to record a 4-2 win in their MLS clash.

The Union took the lead in the 10th minute when Sebastien Le Toux found Andrew Wenger in the box, and the striker fired a left-footed shot into the top corner from a tight angle.

Philadelphia doubled their lead minutes later as Sheanon Williams's cross was cleared straight into the path of Le Toux, who blasted the ball into the net from close range.

Wenger almost returned the favour to Le Toux as he crossed from the left to the near post, but the forward put his effort just over the bar.

In the second half, the Earthquakes got a goal back in spectacular fashion as Sam Cronin's volley from outside the box raced past Rais Mbolhi into the top corner.

San Jose drew level when Shea Salinas lifted a pinpoint cross to the back post for the run of Chris Wondolowski, who fired a first-time volley past Mbolhi with an emphatic finish.

However, this parity lasted just two minutes as Williams darted in at the near post to glance Le Toux's free kick from the right-hand side past Jon Busch.

Wenger sealed the win for his side with a well taken solo run into the box before firing the ball past Busch with a powerful right-footed finish.
