Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson admits that the Posh need to recruit a new striker following the sale of Dwight Gayle to Crystal Palace.

Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson has admitted that they need to bring in a new striker this summer after losing top goalscorer Dwight Gayle to Crystal Palace.

Gayle, who scored 13 times for the Posh in 29 Championship appearances last season, moved to the newly-promoted Selhurst Park side earlier this month in a £4.5m switch.

United have Lee Tomlin, Emile Sinclar and Tyrone Barnett among their forward ranks at present, but Ferguson believes that they must recruit to fill the goalscoring void left by Gayle.

He told Sky Sports News: "I do feel that after losing Dwight Gayle we need to replace him.

"We have got strikers at the club and they'll have opportunities, but I do feel if there's the right one out there, we will replace him."

Peterborough have been linked with a move to bring former striker Aaron McClean, currently of Hull City, back to London Road.
