Peterborough United edge out Notts County

Peterborough United beat Notts County 2-1 at Meadow Lane in League One.

Goals from Marc Maddison and Christian Burgess were enough for Peterborough United as they beat Notts County 2-1 at Meadow Lane this afternoon.

Garry Thompson's cancelled out Maddison's opener with a powerful effort before half time, but Burgess headed home in the second period to give the visitors the points.

Maddison gave the visitors the lead when his long-range effort took a deflection off Hayden Mullins to wrong-foot goalkeeper Roy Carroll on 13 minutes.

Posh were looking for a penalty shortly after when Conor Washington went down under a challenge in the area, but the official waved away the appeals.

The home side started to get the better of proceedings after the half-hour mark, with Balint Bajner particularly involved.

The Hungarian striker's best chance arrived when he forced Scott Loach into a good save after beating his man to open up room for the shot.

With the first half petering out, Thompson made the most of some space to fire a powerful equaliser home.

Burgess gave Posh the lead once more shortly after the hour mark when he attacked a corner at the near post to nod home off the post.

Notts searched for a leveller in what was a scrappy second half, but Posh held firm to take the points at Meadow Lane.
