Good evening! It's just half an hour until the Johnstone's Paint Trophy holders begin the defence of their crown. The visitors have already named their team for their trip to London Road, so let's start with a look at Leyton Orient's squad...

LEYTON ORIENT STARTING XI: Woods, Vincelot, Cuthbert, Baudry, James, Mooney, Lowry, Clarke, Pritchard, Bartley, Dagnall

LEYTON ORIENT SUBSTITUTES: Legzdins, McAnuff, Lee, Henderson, Ling

PETERBOROUGH STARTING XI: Alnwick, Burgess, Smith, Ferdinand, Brisley, Payne, Anderson, Maddison, Newell, Washington, Vassell

PETERBOROUGH SUBSTITUTES: James, McCann, Santos, Barnett, Walker

The Posh have named new signing Luke James, who completed his move from Hartlepool United to Peterborough on transfer deadline day, among their substitutes, but Conor Washington and Kyle Vassell will start up front for this hosts this evening.

Meanwhile, the visitors are without Jay Simpson, who featured against Fleetwood at the weekend, because his partner is in labour. Striker Chris Dagnall comes into the starting lineup, while Dave Mooney continues up front.

While Peterborough tastes success at Wembley in this competition last season, there was Wembley heartbreak for their opponents, as Leyton Orient lost to Rotherham in the final of the League One playoffs.

Peterborough's squad has seen lots of coming and goings over the summer. Just one of the three players that scored for them in their 3-1 win over Chesterfield in last season's final remain at the club. Defender Shaun Brisley starts this evening, while Britt Assombalonga has moved to Nottingham Forest during the transfer window, while Josh McQuoid returned to Bournemouth following the end of his loan spell.

Last time these two sides met was actually in the playoffs in May, when Orient knocked Peterborough outs, beating them 3-2 in their semi-final. In fact, Peterborough have one just one of their last five meetings with Orient.

Prior to kickoff, Posh manager Darren Ferguson told the club's website: "We want to go as far as we can in this competition and I will be playing the strongest side that I can. Leyton Orient are a strong side and it is probably the toughest side we could have faced at this stage in the competition."

Here are the teams! Both sides are making their way out of the tunnel at London Road ready for kickoff.

KICKOFF! Leyton Orient get the match underway.

The hosts try to put their opponents under pressure early on, with Washington and Maddison linking up down the right, before Kane Ferdinand tries to put a through-ball in for Smith, but Orient do enough to prevent Woods coming under pressure in the away goal.

Peterborough win a free kick when Smith is brought down around 25 yards out, and the delivery into the box goes over Brisley's head, before Maddison fires well high from the edge of the box.

GOAL! Peterborough United 0-1 Leyton Orient (Chris Dagnall)

With their first attacking move of the evening, Leyton Orient have silenced the home fans with the opening goal of the match. A long ball is floated into the box by James from a free kick, and Dagnall just stays onside long enough before getting the better of Kane Ferdinand in a sprint towards goal for a free header.

CHANCE! Peterborough are almost back on level terms within a couple of minutes as Anderson slots the ball in for Smith, but the defender's shot goes inches wide.

OFF THE POST! Orient almost double their lead as a defensive mixup lets Lloyd James in for a header in plenty of space, but the midfielder is denied by the left upright. It's certainly been a lively start to this match!

CHANCE! Orient are immediately under pressure down the other end as Vassell bursts into the box, but Woods is able to palm the ball away.

CHANCE! Peterborough are really testing Woods at the minutes as Washington quickly wins the ball back for the hosts and tries to lob the ball beyond the Orient stopper from the edge of the box, but Woods gets back in time to stop it sneaking under the bar.

CHANCE! Maddison and Newell link up on the edge of the box before the former crosses in for Smith, but Vincelot deflects it behind for a corner.

GOAL! Peterborough United 1-1 Leyton Orient (Marcus Maddison)

It's felt like an equaliser has been coming since Peterborough fell behind, and their back on level terms with just over quarter of an hour played. The corner is initially cleared, but Marcus Maddison is waiting for it on the edge of the box, and he strikes is sweetly first time, leaving Woods no chance in the Orient goal.

Vincelot wins the ball in midfield for the hosts, and quickly picks out Mooney, who breaks off a string of challenges before winning corner for the visitors, but Alnwick is on hand to gather once the ball is whipped back into the box.

CHANCE! A deceptive shot from Payne force Woods to put the ball behind for another Peterborough corner. It looks like the keeper has is covered, but Payne's finished dips and bounces awkwardly, forcing Woods to concede the corner. However, the defender's learn from their mistakes in the first corner, and make sure that it's cleared this time around.

There's a bit of an off the ball incident between Peterborough's goalscorer and Bartley of Orient, as the latter digs his studs into Maddison's foot while waiting for a throw in. The Orient man insists that it was accident, as he was walking backwards at the time, and the referee gives him the benefit of the doubt. As play gets back underway, there are a few more heated tackles flying in now, this could get a bit ill-tempered.

Dagnall wants a second as he picks up the ball on the edge of the box before rounding a couple of defenders, but Bartley is on hand to halt his progress. Although Peterborough have had the majority of the chances so far, Orient really have looked dangerous every time they've been in the home side's box.

Anderson shows off some fantastic footwork skills before sending a through-ball in for Vassell, but the striker's first touch lets him down, and Orient manage to clear for a corner, which Burgess heads wide from.

BOOKING! After a rather tetchy spell, the referee is forced to show his first yellow card as Lloyd James catches Payne on the knee with his studs. It looked like to Orient man was focused on the ball, catching the Peterborough midfielder on the follow-through, but it was a bit of a clumsy one, and it's left Payne in some discomfort.

Chances have been a bit scarce over the last five minutes, and it's all become a bit scrappy with just over 10 minutes until the break. While neither side have dominated possession in the last few minutes, Peterborough have the edge so far tonight with 55%.

After several minutes of the ball being passed around in midfield, Peterborough finally manage to get the ball into their opponent's final third, but Michael Smith tries to take his shot too soon, and slices it well wide.

CHANCE! Peterborough try to catch the visitors out with a quick break, as Maddison bursts through midfield before playing it forward for Anderson, but the midfielder is too quick. Maddison quickly wins it back and chips it in for Washington, but Woods is ready for his header.

The biggest cheer of the night goes to the first appearance of the vanishing spray as Baudry concedes a free kick of the edge of the box. Vincelot isn't paying attention as Dean Whitestone draws the line, and he ends up with some of the foam on his boots! Maddison takes the free kick, but it fails to trouble Woods.

CHANCE! Lloyd James fires a long ball into the box, with Vincelot waiting to head in from close range, but Alnwick beats him to take a comfortable catch. Meanwhile, there will be three minutes of stoppage time.

Peterborough apply some late pressure as they try to force a lead just before the break, but Vassell drifts offside while bearing down on the Orient box.

HALF TIME: Peterborough United 1-1 Leyton Orient

So it's level at the break as Marcus Maddison scores on his home debut for Peterborough to cancel out an early goal from Chris Dagnall.

Let's looks at some of the stats from the opening 45 minutes. The home side just edged the possession in the first half with 56%. Peterborough also created the majority of the chances, with nine to Orient's three, four of which were on target, while only Dagnall's effort found the target for the visitors.

One player who will have to be careful in the second half is Lloyd James. The midfielder has been pretty active this evening, but has conceded a couple of free kicks, one of which saw him pick up the game's only yellow card so far.

The players are making their way back out ready for the second half.

Just a reminder, if there's no winner at full time it will be straight to a penalty shootout.

KICKOFF! The second half gets underway.

The visitors try to make another quick start to the half as Clarke looks to get the ball to James, but his ball is cleared by Burgess.

GOAL! Peterborough United 1-2 Leyton Orient (Chris Dagnall)

Chris Dagnall has his second goal of the evening, easily getting the better of Burgess with a blistering run into the box before smashing it into the back of the net from a James delivery. Once again the Peterborough defenders are caught napping at the start of the half.

Peterborough are under pressure against as Vincelot makes a run forward before trying to set up Mooney, but Brisley is there to make the block.

BOOKING! Kyle Vassell is the first Peterborough player to go in the book after clattering into Baudry in midfield.

CHANCE! Dagnall is just a couple of inches away from securing his hat-trick as fires the ball towards Alnwick, who is unable to hold the ball after being deceived by a deflection off Burgess, but the ball bobbles just wide.

CHANCE! Down the other end, Maddison avoid challenges from three defenders with some flashy footwork before passing to Newell, but his finish goes into the crowd behind the goal.

Dean Whitestone has the vanishing spray out again, but Newell's delivery from a free kick around 25 yards out is cleared, and Burgess can't whip the ball back in.

BOOKING! Whitehead is reaching for his yellow card again, and this time it's Shaun Brisley going in the book for a hand in the face of Pritchard. It gives the visitors a free kick from a dangerous position.

Lloyd James lines up the free kick from around 25 yards out, but his mis-hits it, blasting his effort high into the stands.

There seems to be a little more urgency about Peterborough now, as they have just half an hour to keep their defence of the Football League Trophy alive, but a Ferdinand ball in for Maddison comes to nothing when Vincelot makes a solid block.

SUB! The visitors make a change, bringing Jobi McAnuff on in place of Lloyd James, who set up both of Orient's goals, but has been booked.

SUB! The home side are also sending on a fresh pair of legs in the form of deadline day signing Luke James, who replaces Vassell.

GOAL! Peterborough United 1-3 Leyton Orient (Bradley Pritchard)

Bradley Pritchard has his first goal since joining Leyton Orient. The midfielder is left with a tap in from close range after the scorer of the first two goals, Chris Dagnall, pulls the ball back from out wide, leaving Pritchard to turn it in. It's a long way back for the holders now.

Peterborough try to get on the offensive quickly to reduce the deficit, with Maddison attempting to find new boy James, but Vincelot is there to intercept and clear.

BOOKING! Romain Vincelot is the second Orient player to pick up a yellow card after changing into Washington, who had appeared to be clear through on goal.

SUB! Captain Payne makes way for the hosts, with Grant McCann taking his place.

CHANCE! Pritchard tries to add his second of the night with a quick break down the left, but he doesn't have the finishing touch, firing well wide.

RED CARD! Romain Vincelot picks up his second yellow card in less than five minutes for a reckless challenge on Maddison, leaving the referee no choice but to send him off. He seems stunned by the yellow, but I don't think he can have too many complaints, even if Maddison did make the most of it once he hit the ground.

Peterborough win a through in near the corner flag, which Smith launches deep into the area. After a scrappy clearance it falls to Maddison, but his effort does not require Woods to make a save. It will be a tense final 20 minutes for Orient now with a man short, Vincelot has been a big part of their defence this evening.

Following the red card, Peterborough have been dominating possession, but they haven't posed much of a threat in the box yet, with Orient looking well drilled in defence, with numbers back from midfield to help out at the back.

SUB! The home side make their final change, with Tyrone Barnett replacing Kane Ferdinand. It's an attacking move by Peterborough, who have just over 10 minutes to keep themselves in this competition. Barnett's first involvement is to pose a threat up front in a corner, but it comes to nothing for last season's JPT winners.

Barnett, James and Washington are all in the box for Peterborough, with Maddison sending in a cross, but it's Baudry who gets there first for the visitors, heading it away.

CHANCE! Woods has been pretty quiet in the Orient goal in this second half, but he has to make a fine save to keep the two-goal cushion in tact. Smith sends in a superb cross for James, who glances it towards goal with his head, but Woods keeps it out with a fingertip stop.

CHANCE! Woods has the ball again as James continues to look for a goal on his Peterborough debut, trying to fire it in low, but the Orient keeper watches it all the way to make a comfortable stop.

CHANCE! Orient are making their final change, taking off the scorer of their first two goals, Chris Dagnall, and bringing on Harry Lee for the final few minutes.

CHANCE! A cross from Maddison falls to Barnett just a few yards from the Orient goal, but he can't turn in time to get his shot away. Peterborough are certainly piling the pressure on in the final few minutes of this match.

There will be four minutes of stoppage time at London Road this evening.

Maddison and Anderson are continuing to try and set up chances for the hosts, but Orient have numbers back and are doing enough to make sure they remain two goals ahead with just a couple of minutes left.

GOAL! Peterborough United 2-3 Leyton Orient (Luke James)

Probably just a consolation for Peterborough, but Luke James has marked his debut for the hosts with a late goal tapping in from close range.

FULL TIME: Peterborough Town 2-3 Leyton Orient

So Peterborough United's defence of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy has ended at the first hurdle against 10-man Leyton Orient. The Posh came close to getting back on level terms in the final seconds, applying more pressure after Luke James's late goal, but the visitors' dominant start to the second half was enough to see them through.

Well that's all from this match, but stick around to read our roundup of tonight's action in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy. Thanks for joining me this evening, goodbye.
