Republic of Ireland boss Martin O'Neill: 'There's room for improvement'

Republic of Ireland boss Martin O'Neill says that Wednesday evening's friendly against Oman was essential.

Republic of Ireland manager Martin O'Neill has admitted that there is room for his side to improve following their 2-0 win over Oman in Wednesday's friendly international.

The former Aston Villa boss said that the fixture was essential as it gave him an opportunity to assess players ahead of this weekend's Euro 2016 qualifier against Georgia.

"I thought beforehand that we would need the game, and I think it was proved," he told reporters.

"We had a chance to look at Darron Gibson and Robbie Brady, [who] I hadn't seen play for us, anyway - I obviously haven't seen much of Darron Gibson at all in the last couple of years, so I thought the game was needed.

"It's nice to win - there's plenty of improvement [needed], obviously, with Tbilisi on Sunday, but it was just nice to win the game and for things to work out."

Kevin Doyle and Alex Pearce were on target for Ireland in their win over Oman.
