Nottingham Forest transfer news: Nuno Espirito Santo claims "major concern" as he reveals wishlist

Nuno reveals Forest transfer wishlist after claiming "major concern"

Nottingham Forest head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has revealed his frustration at their make-up of his squad ahead of the new Premier League season.

On the back of finishing in seventh place in 2024-25, Forest are bidding to at least replicate that effort on the domestic scene and go deep in the Europa League.

Three major additions have been made during the summer transfer window with defender Jair Cunha and attacking duo Dan Ndoye and Igor Jesus having moved to the City Ground.

Furthermore, there are widespread rumours that the likes of Manchester City playmaker James McAtee and Ipswich Town winger Omari Hutchinson will soon be making the switch to the East Midlands.

However, speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of facing Brentford on Sunday, Nuno claimed that he was unhappy with the current situation with regards to his squad.

What has Nuno said on Forest transfers?

On the opening Premier League fixture, the Portuguese said: "Concerned. Especially about the game on Sunday, we are going to play a tough game against a good team and we are short on options to give solutions that the game might need, which is our major concern. We need players."

When asked to elaborate on what he wants, Nuno added: "I think we weed another option for the goalkeeper situation, on the defensive line full-backs. I think we are OK in the centre halves.

"(Nicolas) Dominguez is injured, Danilo is not here so we need midfielders, on the wings also. In front we have Igor [Jesus], Chris [Wood] and [Taiwo Awoniyi] but maybe another body would be good because of the amount of games."

Nuno continued: "What we want is game-by-game to have as many options as possible. Europa [League] will come after and for sure it will be better but for now these games until that happens is a major concern.

"I already told the players exactly what I told publicly. Let's be stronger, let's make an extra effort, help the team. Those who are here are focused and ready to compete. What is the problem is if something happens, that's the doubt."

A justified or over-reaction?

In terms of incomings and outgoings of players who were in last season's squad, there have been four arrivals and five departures.

Nuno's point stems from a left-back to replace Harry Toffolo and central midfielder to take over from Danilo having not been acquired.

Squad-depth is not necessarily an issue at this point in time with Forest only facing Brentford, Crystal Palace and West Ham United between now and September 13.

Nevertheless, Nuno has suggested that he would prefer not to have players who will eventually leave on loan as part of his short-term plans, as well as admitting that integrating fresh faces with the rest of the senior group as soon as possible also feels like a priority to him.
