Ricky van Wolfswinkel has insisted that he did not take a dig at parent club Norwich City over their brand of football.
The 25-year-old striker, who is on a season-long loan at Saint-Etienne in Ligue 1, was yesterday quoted by French media as saying that Norwich's negative style of play "hurt" him.
After reading the story, Van Wolfswinkel claimed on Twitter that his words had been lost in translation.
He wrote: "Another reason why I shouldn't give any interviews. Things you say will be understood wrong, written wrong and upsets people for no reason.
"Guess that translator isn't doing a great job for the French to English translation.
"If another club has a different style of playing then it doesn't mean the other club is worse then the other. U hear what u wanna hear..."
Van Wolfswinkel's debut season in England with the Canaries was not a successful one as he scored just once in 25 Premier League appearances.
