The Canaries saw off Watford in the previous round, while the Saints kicked off their EFL Cup campaign with a win over Northampton Town.

Liam Manning has experienced a mixed start to his tenure as Norwich boss, having overseen two victories and two defeats in his first four competitive matches, with each game producing a 2-1 scoreline.

After losing their league opener against Millwall, the Canaries went on to record back-to-back away wins over Watford and Portsmouth in the EFL Cup and league respectively.

They were unable to make it three wins on the bounce in Saturday's clash against Middlesbrough at Carrow Road, with Josh Sargent's late effort proving to be a late consolation in a narrow defeat.

Having lost both of their home games this season, the Canaries will enter Tuesday's fixture with hopes of claiming their first competitive Carrow Road win this term as they look to reach round three of the EFL Cup for the third time in five seasons.

However, Norwich have lost two of their previous three second-round ties, including a heavy 4-0 defeat to Crystal Palace at this stage of last season's competition.

The Canaries have also struggled in recent meetings with the Saints, having won just one of their previous eight competitive head-to-head matches (D3, L4).

After finishing bottom of the Premier League last term, Southampton are hoping to secure an immediate return to the top flight under the tutelage of Will Still.

The former Lens boss made a positive start to his Southampton tenure, picking up a 2-1 victory over Wrexham on the opening day of the Championship season, before seeing his side beat Northampton Town 1-0 in the EFL Cup first round.

However, the Saints only mustered one point from their last two Championship outings, playing out a 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town before falling to a narrow defeat to Stoke City at the weekend.

Southampton conceded either side of a Stoke red card, and while Taylor Harwood-Bellis pulled a goal back, they ultimately failed in their quest to salvage a point at St Mary's.

After suffering his first defeat as Southampton boss, Still will be challenging his side to produce a positive response in Tuesday's EFL Cup clash, with the Saints looking to reach the third round for the fourth time in five seasons.

Southampton have won four of their previous seven meetings with Norwich, although their last two encounters have finished all square, and another draw would force penalties in the second-round clash.

Norwich are unable to call upon midfielder Marcelino Nunez, who picked up an ankle injury in the win over Portsmouth earlier this month.

Amankwah Forson, Gabriel Forsyth and Lucien Mahovo are also out injured, while Jacob Wright is suspended after being sent off in the defeat to Norwich.

Manning could make some alterations for Tuesday's contest, with Kenny McLean among those pushing for a starting spot after returning from injury on Saturday.

As for the visitors, Welington is set to miss the midweek fixture after being stretchered off with an ankle injury in the recent defeat to Stoke.

Forward Adam Armstrong was also withdrawn from Saturday's match with a back problem, making him a doubt for the trip to Carrow Road.

Still is likely to make several changes to his side, which could result in starting opportunities for Alex McCarthy, Mads Roerslev, Ronnie Edwards, Ryan Manning, Damion Downs and Adam Armstrong.
