Roy Carroll: 'I've been watching Slovenia's penalties'

Carroll: 'I've been watching penalties'

Northern Ireland's veteran keeper Roy Carroll has admitted that he was studying Slovenia's penalty takers before making a crucial save in their 1-0 friendly win in Belfast.

The Notts County stopper denied Milivoje Novakovic in the second half and kept a clean sheet as the Boys in Green continued their Euro 2016 preparations with victory at Windsor Park.

However, the 38-year-old former Manchester United keeper revealed that Novakovic's spot kick went the way he expected.

He told BBC Sport: "I've been watching their penalties the last two days. I guessed the right way. He went that way in the videos.

"I enjoy playing for Northern Ireland. It's great to play. It's nice to keep a clean sheet as well. I want to be pushing for that number one shirt - nobody wants to be sat on the bench in France.

"I've had some bad nights out there at Windsor Park but tonight was fantastic."

Northern Ireland host Belarus and travel to Slovakia before going to France for the Euros.
