Latest transfer news, rumours: Newcastle closing on Villa man, ex-Man United defender to Leverkusen

Newcastle United have allegedly moved to the brink of signing Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey.

Although the Alexander Isak saga continues to play out in the background, the Magpies have been able to lift the mood at St James' Park with the acquisition of AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw.

Making central-midfield and centre-forward additions is now Eddie Howe's priority and it appears that a deal for Ramsey is close to being announced.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle are expected to confirm the signing of Ramsey on Wednesday.

Villa are said to be prepared to cash in on one of their homegrown talents for a £40m fee, a figure that will provide them with freedom to make their own signings during the remainder of the summer transfer window.

Ramsey has contributed 17 goals and 19 assists from 167 matches since coming through the academy system, but Villa have taken the decision to generate a substantial fee for his signature when he has just two years left on his contract.

Ten Hag pushing for reunion with former Man United defender

Meanwhile, former Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof will reportedly be provided with the chance to sign for Bayer Leverkusen.

The 31-year-old is a free agent after his seven-year stint at Old Trafford, where he made 284 appearances, came to an end in June.

Although the Sweden international is yet to take an opportunity at another club, that search may seemingly end over the coming days.

As per transfer expert Ekrem Konur, who was commenting on X, one of Lindelof's former Man United managers Erik ten Hag is keen for a reunion.

Ten Hag is said to be happy for Lindelof to be offered a three-year contract to make the switch to the Bundesliga giants.

Since arriving at the BayArena, Ten Hag has overseen a wide array of incomings and outgoings, and the Dutchman's argument may be that he requires more experienced figures in his new squad.

Leverkusen playmaker on way to Premier League

Staying on the subject of Leverkusen and it appears that Amine Adli will soon be signing for a Premier League club.

In four seasons in Germany, the playmaker has contributed 23 goals and 24 assists from 142 appearances in all competitions.

However, the 25-year-old is ready to take on a new challenge at a time when a number of English clubs have been credited as admirers.

According to Foot Mercato, Bournemouth are in line to win the race for the Morocco international's signature.

Negotiations are said to be an advanced stage between the two clubs, with the player having already agreed personal terms with the Cherries.

While Bournemouth's priority in the short term appeared to be central defenders, head coach Andoni Iraola will still be delighted to sign a player of Adli's qualities if Bournemouth can get a deal over the line.
