Van Persie starts for much-changed Man United

Manchester United forward Robin van Persie has been passed fit to start in this afternoon's Premier League clash with Newcastle United at Old Trafford.

Van Persie shakes off a groin injury to partner Javier Hernandez in attack. Wayne Rooney is suspended, while Danny Welbeck drops to the bench.

Red Devils boss David Moyes has made a total of seven changes following Wednesday's home loss to Everton.

As well as Van Persie and Hernandez, Adnan Januzaj, Jonny Evans, Phil Jones, Tom Cleverley and Nani all return to the starting XI.

Meanwhile, Newcastle make just one change following their 3-0 defeat at Swansea City, as midfielder Vurnon Anita replaces striker Shola Ameobi.

Man United: De Gea, Rafael, Evans, Vidic, Evra, Nani, Jones, Cleverley, Januzaj, Hernandez, Van Persie Subs: Lindegaard, Ferdinand, Anderson, Valencia, Young, Zaha, Welbeck

Newcastle: Krul, Debuchy, Williamson, Coloccini, Santon, Cabaye, Tiote, Anita, Sissoko, Remy, Gouffran Subs: Elliot, Yanga-Mbiwa, Obertan, Gutierrez, Ben Arfa, Shola Ameobi, Cisse
