Team News: Harry Kane starts for Tottenham Hotspur against Newcastle United

Kane starts for Spurs against Newcastle

Tottenham Hotspur forward Harry Kane has been handed a start for the club's Premier League opener with Newcastle United.

Kane has only recently returned from his summer break after helping England to the World Cup semi-finals, but the club captain - along with Three Lions teammates Eric Dier and Dele Alli - are all named in Mauricio Pochettino's starting lineup.

Fellow semi-finalist Jan Vertonghen and World Cup winner Hugo Lloris also make an appearance as Pochettino opts against easing some of his star men back into action.

Christian Eriksen and Lucas Moura have been handed starting roles in the final third, but there is no place for Danny Rose, who continues to be linked with a move away from the North London outfit.

As for Newcastle, Rafael Benitez opts against including any players who did not feature for the Magpies during the second half of the last campaign.

Fabian Schar, Ki Sung-yueng, Yoshinori Muto and Salomon Rondon have all been left on the substitutes' bench for the fixture in the North-East.

Joselu has been given the nod in attack, while Matt Ritchie features on the right side of midfield despite being linked with an exit over the summer.

Newcastle United: Dubravka; Yedlin, Clark, Lascelles, Dummett; Diame, Shelvey; Ritchie, Perez, Kenedy; Joselu Subs: Darlow, Manquillo, Schar, Ki, Atsu, Muto, Rondon

Tottenham Hotspur: Lloris; Aurier, Sanchez, Vertonghen, Davies; Dier, Sissoko; Eriksen, Alli, Moura; Kane Subs: Vorm, Alderweireld, Walker-Peters, Amos, Dembele, Son, Llorente
