Kevin Doyle secures a point for Wolves as they come from two down to draw 2-2 with Newcastle on Saturday afternoon.

Wolverhampton Wanderers came from two behind to secure a 2-2 draw against Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon.

It was Wolves who began the match the stronger and they might have taken the lead barely one minute in when Kevin Doyle advanced on goal, but his shot was saved by Tim Krul.

Newcastle took the lead moments, when Papiss Cisse found a finish after good work from Demba Ba six minutes into the game.

It was almost two when Danny Simpson struck a powerful shot from distance, but Wolves goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey pushed the ball to safety.

The home side did add a second, however, after 18 minutes when Jonas Gutierrez struck a long-range effort into the top corner.

It was almost three moments after when Ba found himself unmarked in the area, but Christophe Berra produced a diving block.

For all the home side's pressure, Wolves remained a threat and Doyle again went close with a header after 29 minutes.

Wolves cut the deficit to 2-1 after 50 minutes when Matthew Jarvis found the back of the net, albeit via a deflection off Magpies defender Simpson.

The away side came close to levelling the match after 60 minutes when Stephen Ward had an effort on goal, but Krul pushed the ball to safety.

Wolves levelled the match moments later, when Doyle poked home from close range to tie the game at 2-2.

Hatem Ben Arfa so nearly won it for the home side late on when he struck from distance, but it was Wolves who finished the stronger.

Newcastle will look to return to winning ways when they host Sunderland next Sunday, while Wolves travel to Fulham.
