Newcastle United beaten by Malaga

Newcastle United are beaten 3-1 by Malaga in the Schalke Cup.

Newcastle United slipped to a 3-1 defeat against Malaga in the Schalke Cup pre-season tournament on Saturday afternoon.

The Andalusians took the lead through Sergi Darder on 25 minutes when his low drive flew past Rob Elliot in the Newcastle goal.

Malaga then doubled their advantage just after the half-hour mark when Samu Castillejo smashed the ball in after a good cross from Jesus Gamez.

Castillejo had his second of the game just before the end of the half when his long-range attempt deflected beyond Elliot as the La Liga side took a commanding 3-0 lead into the break.

Gabriel Obertan reduced the deficit on the hour mark when his fierce effort flew past Carlos Kameni after a short corner was played to the Magpies winger.
