Good afternoon! It's all eyes on Newcastle United this afternoon as they try to secure their place in the Premier League for another season. They know that they won't be relegated as long as Hull City don't beat Manchester United, but can keep matters in their own hands with a win over Sam Allardyce's West Ham this afternoon.

The teams have just been announced, so let's take a look at the squad's for this afternoon's clash at St James's Park...

So that's three changes to Newcastle's starting lineup following their loss to Queens Park Rangers last weekend. Papiss Cisse returns to the starting lineup, while Mike Williamson is back after suspension and Vurnon Anita also comes in. Ayoze Perez, Ryan Taylor and Remy Cabella all drop to the bench. Even with Riviere having finally opened his account for the Magpies last week, it's a bit of a surprise to see him chosen ahead of Perez for this must-win fixture.

Meanwhile, Sam Allardyce has been force to make two changes to the side that were beaten by Everton last time out. James Collins misses out with a calf strain, while Mark Noble is ruled out with a toe injury, so Reece Burke and Kevin Nolan return. Nolan missed last weekend because of a family bereavement, but the captain will no doubt be keen to make an impact against his former club.

Despite not yet being safe, Newcastle can still finish as high as 14th in the final table, depending on the results of sides above them. Because of their goal difference, a draw would not be enough to keep them up if Hull manage to upset Man Utd at the KC Stadium this afternoon.

West Ham already know that they will be finishing comfortable mid-table this season. They're 11th ahead of kickoff, but could drop as low as 13th or jump up to 10th. With an ex-Newcastle manager and captain, there's no danger of the Hammers taking it easy this afternoon, particularly with Allardyce's future at West Ham uncertain.

Neither side come into this match in great form. No team has picked up fewer points from their last six league matches than Newcastle, with John Carver's side having drawn once and last five times in recent weeks. West Ham haven't been much better, losing three of their last six, with just one win.

Both managers know that they could be heading into their final matches with their clubs this afternoon. Sam Allardyce has continually been linked with a move away from Upton Park this summer, with David Moyes, Garry Monk and former Croatia manager Slaven Bilic all being linked with the role. Carver has been in charge since Alan Pardew left to join Crystal Palace in January. Since then, the team has slipped from pushing for a European place to relegation candidates.

Newcastle's bid to stay up has not been aided by Papiss Cisse's seven-match ban for spitting at Jonny Evans during the team's defeat to Manchester United. Sports Mole has been looking back at some of the quotes of the season on Twitter this afternoon, and here's what the FA had to say about that incident:

Ahead of kickoff, John Carver told reporters: "I don't think any other manager would have had to deal with everything I've had to deal with in their whole career. And certainly not in five months. I hope I'm smiling at 5pm, but in a really strange way I've thoroughly enjoyed it. I really have. I think I got hardened up a little bit when Alan [Pardew] was here and he took a bit of abuse. I got used to it. I'm definitely a stronger person and better for it."

Meanwhile, Sam Allardyce wrote in his London Standard column: "My responsibility is neither to Newcastle, who we play at St James's Park, nor Hull City but firmly to West Ham winning and finishing the season with 50 points. My future at West Ham will be decided after this weekend. I will be on holiday with my grandchildren, something I'm looking forward to immensely, but my representatives will be talking to the club. There's nothing more I can say on that. I'm not in control of the situation so we'll just wait and see."

REFEREE WATCH! Martin Atkinson will be in charge of this match today. In 45 matches this season, Atkinson has handed out 10 red cards, including to Newcastle's Fabricio Coloccini in their loss to Everton, and Steven Taylor in their win over Chelsea. Atkinson also gave West Ham's Morgan Amalfitano his marching orders in the team's FA Cup exit at the hands of West Brom.

PREDICTION! The players will be heading out shortly, so let's make a quick prediction. With the added emotion of the relegation battle, it's a difficult one to call. However, form suggests this one could be a draw, so I'm going for a 1-1 this afternoon. A lot could depend on the Hull result though.

The players make their way out of the tunnel ready for kickoff. The Newcastle supporters certainly sound like they'll be doing their bit to help their side this afternoon, with a roar going up around the stadium as both sets of players arrive.

KICKOFF! West Ham get the match underway.

CHANCE! It's a confident start from the home side as Riviere works hard down the right to get the ball forward to Cisse. The striker is joined by Riviere in the box though, and they get in each other's way before the latter slices it just wide.

PENALTY APPEAL! The visitors want a spot kick as Mike Williamson goes in a bit late on Valencia, resulting in shouts from the Hammers players. The defender did get the ball though, so Martin Atkinson waves for the action to continue.

West Ham win the first corner of the game as Jenkinson sends a lovely ball forward for Downing, but the midfielder's cross gets turned behind. The set piece is wasted though as Tim Krul is bundled to the ground by Kevin Nolan, giving the home side a free kick.

CHANCE! It's another close one for Riviere as Daryl Janmaat floats the ball in for the winger. Riviere dives towards it, attempting to head in at the near post, but it's just wide.

Newcastle try to get forward again as Colback tricks Kouyate with some flashy footwork before speeding past Aaron Cresswell. He looks for Cisse in the middle, but Adrian comes off his line to claim it.

After a rather frantic start to the match, it's just starting to settle down now, with Newcastle dominating possession and showing more intent going forward. Cresswell has looked particularly shaky at the back for West Ham so far, with the defender losing out a few times to Colback.

Downing works hard to get the ball forward for the visitors before curling it into the box for Cresswell, but the pair get their timing all wrong, resulting in the ball going straight behind for a goal kick.

Jenkinson and Nolan play the ball through midfield for West Ham as the visitors continue to look for a breakthrough. Downing eventually tries to pick out the run of Kouyate, but Krul manages to get to it first.

CHANCES! Newcastle are knocking on the door again as Jonas Gutierrez hits one with some power from the edge of the box, but Reid is in the right place at the right time to make the block. Anita gets a chance on the rebound, but it goes wide.

UPDATE! In the other match with relegation implications, Hull City have had the ball in the back of the net twice so far, but both times they've been ruled out for offside. It remains Hull 0-0 Man Utd.

Valencia appears to be a bit of a marked man this afternoon as he is floored by a clash of heads before being dragged down by Colback a few moments later, giving West Ham a free kick, but they can't get a shot away from the resulting set piece.

CHANCE! West Ham's best chance of the match so far falls to Stewart Downing as he times his run into the box to perfection, and takes a touch before trying to slice it into the bottom left corner, but Krul just gets a leg to it to turn it away.

West Ham are looking particularly dangerous down the left at the moment, with Kouyate and Nolan leading the charge for the visitors. Nolan sends a dangerous-looking cross in towards Cole, who hasn't done much yet, but it's cleared before it reaches the striker.

CHANCE! Moussa Sissoko has to be strong to hold off Nolan and Jenkinson, before attempting to slip the ball in for Cisse, but his ball forward isn't quick accurate enough for the waiting striker. Janmaat crosses it back in moments later, but Adrian claims it.

CHANCE! Janmaat is sending is some superb crosses from the right this afternoon, this time picking out Riviere, but the winger can't get enough power behind his shot, scuffing it straight into Adrian's arms.

West Ham head back down the other end, with Downing providing the ball in for Valencia. However, the striker doesn't get to have a shot, as he's penalised for a bit of shoving on Fabricio Coloccini. Both sides are showing plenty of intent and getting forward a lot, but neither have really dominated so far. If it stays this way at half time, it could be a cracking final 45 minutes.

Still both sides attack without finding the back of the net as Janmaat looks for Cisse, only for Adrian to claim it and launch Song down the other end on the counter, but his ambitious cross-pitch ball towards Downing was somewhat wayward.

Colback leaves Kouyate stranded as he cuts inside looking for Janmaat, but the Dutchman can only fire the ball behind. Meanwhile, the crowd at St James's Park has just started to quieten down after a pretty vociferous first 35 minutes.

Newcastle are looking to finish the first half on a high as Cisse flicks on high ball on for Sissoko, but his path is blocked. Gutierrez tries to keep the move alive, but the visitors eventually manager to scramble the ball clear.

At half time, Newcastle are no closer to ending their relegation fears after goalless first half with West Ham United. The Magpies started the match brightly, but have looked vulnerable when West Ham have got forward, and haven't been able to make the most of their chances. It's going to be a nervy final 45 minutes to the season for John Carver's men.

The good news for Newcastle is that Hull City are still goalless in their match against Manchester United. The Tigers must win to stay up, so as long as Steve Bruce's side don't score, Newcastle know that they will be safe.

Here are some of the stats from the opening 45 minutes. West Ham dominated the possession with 61% of the ball, but Newcastle had more chances, with nine shots to West Ham's two. So far, Martin Atkinson has kept his cards in his pockets, with neither side picking up any bookings in the first half.

If Newcastle do find themselves needing a goal at some point, Ayoze Perez would seem the obvious choice on the bench, with the young Spaniard scoring seven goals so far this season. Yoan Gouffran, Sammy Ameobi and Remy Cabella are all options for Carver too.

The players are starting to make their way out ready for the start of the second half.

It looks like Martin Atkinson is holding kickoff so that this match starts at the same time as the match at the KC Stadium.

RESTART! Newcastle get the action back underway at St James's Park.

CHANCE! Cisse uses his strength to get forward, winning a corner for the home side. Colback curls the ball back in, and Williamson rises highest to attempt the header, but he nods it just wide of the post.

Newcastle have made a positive start to the second half as Gutierrez tries to burst through the middle, just getting a through-ball in for Cisse, but Adrian rushes out to collect it.

CHANCE! Riviere missed some sitters in this first half, but this is an absolute shocker! Janmaat sends a low cross in for the winger, who is unmarked at the far post. He just needs to get the slightest of touches on it to beat the keeper, who was at the near post, but he misses it completely.

What a header from Moussa Sissoko! Is that the goal that will keep Newcastle in the Premier League for anther season? It may very well be! The midfielder times him jump to perfection as Jonas Gutierrez delivers a sublime cross from the left flank.

BOOKING! Sissoko also picks up the first booking of the afternoon for, quite understandably, excessive celebration.

West Ham aren't giving up as Kevin Nolan tries to keep the ball in down the other, but Colback does enough to force him behind before he can get the cross in.

Since the Sissoko goal, there's been a real change in the atmosphere in St James's Park. The chants are louder and more upbeat, and the home supporters are certainly looking a lot more relaxed. As things stand, Newcastle will jump up to 16th, finishing above Aston Villa.

SUB! West Ham make the first change of the afternoon, with Enner Valencia making way for Morgan Amalfitano.

The home side are looking to put the win beyond doubt as Gutierrez is fouled around 30 yards out, leaving Newcastle with a chance from a free kick, but Cresswell does enough to get it clear for the visitors.

Riviere has been more than a handful up front today, but it just hasn't been his day when it comes to finishing. He weaves his way in front out wide, but as soon as he lines up a shot from just inside the box, he's blocked. Meanwhile, here's Sissoko moments after he put Newcastle ahead:

SUB! It's a second change for the visitors as James Tomkins returns from a couple of months out with a dislocated shoulder, replacing Reece Burke.

Newcastle are still looking the more likely at the moment as Janmaat lifts the ball over the top for Sissoko, but the goalscorer's first touch is lacking. You certainly wouldn't bet against the Magpies doubling their lead before the end of the match.

UPDATE! There's more good news for Newcastle from elsewhere as Sunderland have fallen behind to Chelsea, which means Newcastle would finish 15th if the game ended now.

A tricky Vurnon Anita delivery into the box forces Adrian to turn the ball behind for a Newcastle corner. Coloccini goes for an ambitious volley from the edge of the box after Janmaat flicked it on, but the captain slipped, firing well high.

SUB! West Ham make their final change, replacing Cheikhou Kouyate with Elliot Lee, who is the son of former Newcastle defender Rob Lee.

CHANCE! West Ham come within inches of levelling the scores down the other end as Amalfitano crosses it in towards Cole, who flicks it into the path of Nolan. The ex-Newcastle man hits it low and hard just outside the penalty area, but it swerves just wide of the left upright.

BOOKING! Morgan Amalfitano is the first player in the book for West Ham for a late challenge on Vurnon Anita.

CHANCE! A selfless pass from Vurnon Anita has just cost Newcastle the chance to put the win beyond doubt as Newcastle quickly clear a free kick down the other end, allowing Anita to lead the charge back towards the West Ham goal. He has only the keeper to beat, and draws Adrian off his line, but decides to square it to Cisse instead, allowing Adrian to get a hand to it. The home supporters can't believe that he didn't take the shot on himself.

CHANCE! Newcastle almost pay the price for Anita's mix up as Downing gets a shot away from the edge of the area, just floating his shot high.

Jonas Gutierrez, who many have tipped to leave Newcastle at the end of the year, appears to have put the relegation threat to bed for another year at least. He's in space around 30 yards out as the ball is played forward, and he takes a touch before rifling into the bottom of the net from just inside the box. He's a popular goal-scorer with the fans, as his name echoes around the ground.

BOOKING! Gutierrez took his shirt off as he celebrated the goal, earning himself a booking. He won't care about that though!

SUB! Newcastle finally make their first change, with Yoan Gouffran taking the place of Vurnon Anita.

Gutierrez shows his commitment down the other end as he gets back to block a cross into the Newcastle box. The hosts try to catch West Ham out on the counter-attack, but Cisse can't control the ball.

There are three minutes of added time to be played and before Newcastle's Premier League survival is official.

All Newcastle really have to do now is keep hold of the ball, but they're still pushing for a third as Janmaat and Cisse link up on the right. It comes to a halt when Cisse and Winston Reid have a bit of a coming together, but the referee quickly steps in to separate the duo.

It's official - Newcastle United will be playing Premier League football next season! Second-half goals from Jonas Gutierrez and Moussa Sissoko condemn Hull City to relegation and keep John Carver's men in the top flight.

Gutierrez set up the first before scoring the second. It's been a difficult year for the midfielder, having been diagnosed with testicular cancer last summer: Speaking on the pitch to Sky Sports News, he says: "Newcastle is bigger than this and we have to look forward. We deserve to be in the top 10 not fighting at the bottom. I'm here, I'm back, I'm enjoying playing football and having a second chance in my life."

With results elsewhere, Newcastle's win is enough to lift them up to 15th in the final table, above local rivals Sunderland. Whether or not John Carver will still be with the club next season is yet to be decided, but the manager looks delighted to have kept the side up as he applauds the home supporters.
