Police confirm Aleksandar Kolarov allegation

Northumbria Police have confirmed that they have received a complaint of racist abuse involving Manchester City defender Aleksandar Kolarov during today's encounter with Newcastle United at St James' Park.

It is believed that a supporter, who was holding an Albanian flag, lodged the complaint after the match following reports that he was abused by the Serbian international while he warmed up.

"Northumbria Police has received a report of racist language having been used at the St James' Park stadium during the Newcastle United vs. Manchester City match today," read a statement.

"Northumbria Police takes such allegations extremely seriously and enquiries are ongoing into the incident."

There have long been tensions between the Serbian and Albanian communities.
