Newcastle United defender Steven Taylor calls on the club's supporters to "stick behind" the team.

Newcastle United defender Steven Taylor has called on the club's supporters to keep backing the team following their disappointing stint in the Premier League.

The Magpies fell to a 2-1 defeat against Swansea City at the weekend but the North East outfit will switch their attentions to the Europa League when they face Maritimo on Thursday.

"If the fans stick behind us, we will get it right," Taylor told the Shields Gazette. "Hopefully, that'll start on Thursday [in the Europa League].

"We've got key players out injured but they're coming back. This is a fantastic place. The lads absolutely love playing here and teams have got to hate playing here."

In the Premier League, Newcastle have slipped to 12th place in the table.
