Alan Pardew calls for transfer window to shut before season starts

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew suggests that the summer transfer window should be closed before the start of the Premier League season.

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has suggested that the summer transfer window should be closed by the time the first Premier League match of the season rolls around.

Pardew was left feeling frustrated after Arsenal made a reported £10m offer for midfielder Yohan Cabaye on the eve of the Magpies' 4-0 defeat to Manchester City last night.

The former West Ham United boss believes that changes to the length of the window should be considered due to a number of cases, including Chelsea's reported interest in Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney.

"There is a question about the window being closed before we kick off the Premier League season," Sky Sports News quotes Pardew as saying. "I know the Premier League asked the European leagues to do it and they wouldn't fall in line.

"But after the summer we have had, the situations we have had, with Rooney as well, it is definitely something they need to put under the microscope again."

Cabaye was left out of last night's squad as he was not in the right frame of mind to play due to the bid from Arsenal.
