Alan Pardew: 'Mike Ashley knows Newcastle United are fighting'

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew says that the club's owner, Mike Ashley, knows that the team is fighting for a win in the Premier League.

Alan Pardew has revealed that Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley knows that the team are fighting for their first win of the season in the Premier League.

The Magpies sit in the bottom three in the table after picking up just three points from their first six games of the season, leading to calls from the fans for the manager to be sacked.

Pardew told reporters: "I'm very fortunate to have an owner that can see we are fighting for the club. The fans are angry and want to see their team win. They don't want to see us lose any more. We have a team that's not quite functioning as we would like but there is nowhere to hide.

"I've been out and about and had a few fans telling me their opinions, quite strongly. A few cars are diving a bit too close to me. I get it. I will go home, shine my manager of the year trophy and give myself a bit of confidence.

"It's like a boxing ring, there is nowhere to hide. People keep asking me are you going to come back? What are you going to do? Are you going to stay on the line? Well I'm not going to hide and I don't expect my players to hide. It's about digging in at this point and we need to do it as a team. If we can show that, something will fall our way."

Newcastle travel to the Liberty Stadium to face Newcastle United tomorrow.
