Howey tips Pardew for England

Steve Howey thinks that Alan Pardew is worthy of being a contender to succeed England boss Fabio Capello.

Former Newcastle United defender Steve Howey believes that Alan Pardew should be considered a contender for the England manager role.

The Magpies are currently third in the Premier League table, six points adrift of league leaders Manchester City and one point behind Manchester United.

"The job that [Pardew] is doing at the moment is absolutely fantastic," Howey told talkSPORT.

"The general football public might look at it and think, 'Is Alan Pardew high profile enough to be England manager?' But on current form, with what's he's producing for his team, you've got to say that he's got to be up there."

Current Three Lions boss Fabio Capello is expected to step down after the European Championships next summer.
