Mathieu Debuchy insists that he has an attacking style that can excite Newcastle United fans and help the club move away from the relegation zone after a difficult start to the season.

French international Mathieu Debuchy has declared that he wants to emulate countryman David Ginola's exploits on Tyneside after finally completing a move to Newcastle United.

Debuchy signed a five-and-a-half year deal with Newcastle this week after coming close to leaving Lille for the Premier League in the summer.

Alan Pardew's side have struggled this season but Debuchy believes that the Toon are in a false position and is ready to help them climb the table.

He told the Newcastle Evening Chronicle: "Newcastle are a big club in a false position. We must move up the table and I hope my qualities help move us away from the relegation zone.

"I would like to be a success like Ginola was. David had a successful career here and my aim is to follow suit.

"I am an attacking type of player and I have no intention of changing the way I play. I hope that my type of game will suit the Premier League because I feel this is the best place to develop my career."

Debuchy was not signed in time to make his Newcastle debut this afternoon as Pardew's injury-hit side were knocked out of the FA Cup by Brighton & Hove Albion.
