Peter Beardsley excited by Newcastle United youth ranks

Former Newcastle United star Peter Beardsley is excited by the club's youth ranks.

Newcastle United Under-21 manager Peter Beardsley believes that the club have a bright future after another of his young players was promoted to the first team this weekend.

Manger Alan Pardew called up 17-year-old winger Callum Roberts for Saturday's Premier League fixture against Queens Park Rangers, and his involvement shows that his performances at youth level have been noticed.

"The big thing is the players," Beardsley told the club's official website. "The players have been brilliant, from day one of pre-season they've been top class and they're getting their rewards.

"It really makes me feel proud because they all said it was good football to watch and that's what we try to do.

"Obviously the manager's got the first team playing good football so hopefully we can follow their lead."

Paul Dummett, Sammy Ameobi, Adam Armstrong and Rolando Aarons have all broken through at senior level this year.
