Montreal Impact beat 10-man New England Revolution

Impact beat 10-man Revolution

Montreal Impact have regained top spot in the MLS Eastern Conference with a 4-2 win over New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium.

Marco Schallibaum's side are level on points with Sporting Kansas City and New York Red Bulls but are ahead by virtue of goals scored, despite having played two fewer games than their rivals.

The home side got off to a disastrous start as Matt Reis was shown a straight red for bringing Marco Di Vaio down inside the area.

To add insult to injury, Patrice Bernier stepped up to put the Canadian side in front.

The Revolution were back on level terms in the 25th minute when Diego Fagundez found the net after a neat exchange with Dimitry Imbongo Boele.

However, the visitors were awarded another penalty in the 33rd minute when Felipe Martins Campanholi went down under a challenge from Jose Goncalves Goncalo Santos, allowing Bernier to slot home his second of the evening.

Di Vaio struck either side of half time to put the game to bed, although Kelyn Rowe grabbed a consolation goal 15 minutes from the end.
