Jonathan de Guzman ready for Netherlands return

Netherlands manager Louis van Gaal confirms that midfielder Jonathan de Guzman is ahead of schedule in his recovery from a hamstring injury.

The Netherlands have confirmed that Jonathan de Guzman will be fit in time for their first game of the World Cup in Brazil.

The Dutch midfielder, who has spent the last two seasons on loan with Swansea City, picked up a hamstring strain while training in preparation for the tournament, preventing him from playing in their friendly against Wales earlier this week.

However, manager Louis van Gaal told reporters: "He is ahead of schedule, it has been more quickly than expected."

The Netherlands will face defending champions Spain in their first group game.
