Napoli transfer news: Three Premier League outcasts targeted by Antonio Conte?

Premier League outcasts trio targeted by Antonio Conte's Napoli

Reigning Serie A champions Napoli are looking to make the most of the summer transfer window to reinforce their squad ahead of the new season. At the request of head coach Antonio Conte, the Azzurri have reportedly identified three Premier League players as potential signings: Raheem Sterling, Alejandro Garnacho and Jack Grealish.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Napoli are planning to meet with representatives from England to explore the feasibility of signing one of the trio, with the club keen to add another winger to their ranks.

Conte currently has three natural wide options available: Matteo Politano on the right; Noa Lang, recently signed from PSV Eindhoven for €25m (approximately £21.2m), on the left; and David Neres, who can operate on either flank.

Giacomo Raspadori is also capable of playing out wide, but Conte reportedly prefers to use him as a second striker or attacking midfielder. This tactical setup has prompted interest in Sterling, Garnacho and Grealish.

Napoli’s interest in Sterling, Garnacho and Grealish

In all three cases, financial considerations could prove a stumbling block for the Italian club. Raheem Sterling, for instance, is no longer part of Chelsea’s long-term plans. The 30-year-old spent last season on loan at Arsenal but failed to make a significant impact.

Despite this, Sterling’s experience and profile reportedly match Conte’s requirements. Chelsea are open to selling the winger but are not expected to make negotiations straightforward.

Alejandro Garnacho was also on Napoli’s radar in January, but Manchester United’s asking price at the time brought talks to a halt. The 21-year-old has since fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford following a reported falling-out with manager Ruben Amorim.

As a result, Garnacho has been transfer-listed and was left out of United’s pre-season tour squad. It remains to be seen whether Napoli are willing to meet the valuation set by the Red Devils.

Jack Grealish presents a different case. While his style of play does not entirely fit with Conte’s tactical vision, the Manchester City forward could still adapt to Napoli’s system. However, his wages may be an issue — the 29-year-old earns around €10m per year (roughly £8.5m), which exceeds the club’s salary cap.

Grealish, once City’s record signing, has struggled to live up to expectations since arriving from Aston Villa.

Another player linked with Napoli is Federico Chiesa. The Italian international spent last season at Liverpool but failed to secure a regular starting place and was omitted from their 2025-26 pre-season squad.
