Fernandez to succeed Girard at Montpellier

Montpellier have named Jean Fernandez as their coach for next season.

The Frenchman will replace Rene Girard when his contract with the defending Ligue 1 champions runs out at the end of the season.

"I share his values," club president Louis Nicollin told reporters. "I have long wanted to work with this man because I share his values, but circumstances never allowed us to do it.

"Jean Fernandez, therefore, will succeed Rene Girard head of MHSC. Girard has spent four years on the bench of Montpellier, getting results largely up to our expectations.

"The highlight of the future ex-coach of Montpellier was becoming the champions of France last season after a fabulous adventure."

Fernandez has been without a job since parting company with Nancy in January.
