Zlatan Ibrahimovic brace sinks Moldova

Zlatan Ibrahimovic brace sinks Moldova

Sweden have recorded the second win of their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign as a brace from Zlatan Ibrahimovic gave them a 2-0 win over Moldova in Chisinau.

The hosts gave their opponents a shock inside the opening few minutes when they nearly took the lead through Gheorghe Boghiu.

Sweden didn't trouble Moldova until Kiese Thelin spurned a good opportunity on 22 minutes and Erkan Zengin saw his long-range strike saved by Ilie Cebanu a minute later.

Ibrahimovic's first contribution was to send a mishit strike towards goals just before half time that was turned wide of Cebanu's post by Thelin.

Despite their tame first-half showing, Sweden took the lead immediately after the restart through Ibrahimovic.

However, the goal was all the making of Cebanu, who sent his clearance straight at Ibrahimovic and could only watch as the forward managed to direct an impromptu header into the back of the empty Moldovan net from the edge of the box.

Thelin should have doubled his side's advantage on the hour mark when he took the ball around Cebanu, only to knock the ball out of play with a heavy touch with the goal at his mercy.

Instead it fell to Ibrahimovic to wrap up the win five minutes from time from the penalty spot after Vadim Bolohan was penalised for a rash tackle on substitute Emil Forsberg.

The result keeps Sweden in second place in Group G, four points behind leaders Austria.
