Oldham Athletic denied late on against MK Dons

Ben Reeves's late goal is enough for MK Dons to see off a battling Oldham Athletic in League One.

Relegation-threatened Oldham Athletic were denied a share of the points by MK Dons in their League One match, thanks to a late Ben Reeves goal.

The first chance of the game fell to the hosts when Reeves put a teasing cross into the box, although none of his teammates could get on the end of it.

Izale McLeod also came close to opening the scoring for the Dons after Samir Carruthers picked him out in the box, but the striker couldn't get his header on target.

McLeod was involved again moments later, playing the ball to Luke Chadwick who in turn found Carruthers, but the loanee couldn't make room for the shot and the chance went begging.

Oldham grew into the contest as Jon Stead nearly put them into the lead after rounding David Martin, only for his effort to be saved off the line.

Buoyed by their chance, Oldham pushed forward once more and broke the deadlock courtesy of Adam Lockwood, who headed home from close range to fire the Latics ahead before half time.

Just four minutes after the restart, Carruthers levelled the score by finding the bottom corner after jinking past three opposition players.

The Latics had to play the final 25 minutes with 10 men as Genseric Kusunga was dismissed for a second bookable offence after bringing down an MK Dons player.

Mark Oxley was forced into making a fine save to deny Reeves from giving Dons the lead, but Oldham couldn't hold out and the 22-year-old midfielder poked home the ball into an empty net to win the game for Karl Robinson's men.
