Ben Gibson signs new Middlesbrough contract until 2022

Ben Gibson signs new Boro contract

Middlesbrough defender Ben Gibson has signed a new five-year deal at the Riverside Stadium.

The 24-year-old, who has been on the Teessiders' books since the age of 10, is now tied to the Championship club until June 30, 2022.

Gibson was heavily linked with a move away from Boro in the close-season following their relegation from the Premier League just a year after promotion.

However, the centre-back has opted to commit his future to Garry Monk's side, telling the official club website: "I'm delighted to sign a new contract.

"Everyone knows what this club means to me. I've grown up with the club, I went to the Riverside from a young age and remember all those special European nights.

"I've been lucky enough to go on and play for the club, and even the captain team, and I've had some amazing experiences here."

Gibson earned his first call-up to the England squad in March and was again selected in June but is still awaiting his first cap.
